...the Lord will destroy what you have made... 2 Chronicles 20:37

Description

2 Chronicles 20:35-37 “After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined with Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted wickedly. 36 He joined him in building ships to go to Tarshish, and they built the ships in Ezion-geber. 37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined with Ahaziah, the Lord will destroy what you have made.” And the ships were wrecked and were not able to go to Tarshish.”

Jehosophat was a good man who did many good things and served the Lord. However, he misapplied a Godly principle of being peaceful. He made peace with the wicked king of Israel (Ahaziah) but went further and made an alliance with him. Simply being at peace was not the problem, making an alliance and trying to profit from that alliance was. Jehosophat chose to trust in this alliance instead of trusting in God.

God’s Word tells us not to be yoked with unbelievers. Being yoked means to be aligned with, to try and act together, to make marriages with, have business partnerships with and more. We should be peaceful as much as possible, but that does not mean that we need to make alliances. Our faith and trust is in God, not worldly alliances. If we are seeking companionship, or seeking business partnerships, we should prayerfully seek out fellow believers in Christ.
