Visual Aid: The gospels

The gospels

Description

The 4 gospels in the Bible deliver the good news of Christ.  Each provide a different perspective on who Jesus is.  Each agrees with the other that he was the Messiah, the shepherd, the Son of Man and the Son of God, but each gives special focus to these 4 key characteristics of Jesus.

Matthew

Perspective: King

Matthew’s gospel confirms that Jesus fulfilled the prophesies regarding the coming king and savior.  The Book opens with the geneaology of Jesus which confirms that he has a royal linage – from David.

Matthew 27:37 “…This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews”

Mark

Perspective: Faithful Shepherd / Obedient Servant

Mark presents Jesus as the obedient servant fulfilling the will of God the Father and caring for his flock.

Mark 6:34 “And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.”

Luke

Perspective: Son of Man

Luke, a physician, presents Jesus as a sinless man.  Luke confirms his birth of a woman, a virgin, and his life as a man.

Luke 2:16 “And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.”

John

Perspective: Son of God

John confirms the diety of Christ – he was God in the flesh.

John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
