Visual Aid: I have graven you on my hands

I have graven you on my hands. Isaiah 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

“Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.”  Isaiah 49:16

The verse preceding this one reads

“15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”

God’s love for his people is stronger than even a mother’s love for her baby – she may forget, but God will not.. God has not left us without promises concerning his faithfulness. The Bible often uses vivid language to describe God’s promises. This is one such case.

Notice that we are graven, not merely written. An engraving cannot be erased or removed. Imagine carving something into your hands. Blood would be shed. You would remember. Notice also where we are engraved on the palms of God’s hands. Imagine that you are about to raise your hand to take some action – do you notice your palms? I often do. How often does God think of his people? Continually.
