Why family Bible studies?

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Attending church once a week, twice a week, or even at every opportunity is simply not enough for an individual to become well-versed in the scriptures.  It is absolutely necessary that individuals read the Bible themselves and search the scriptures to learn to feed on it for a lifetime.  Too often churches feed the people but do not teach the members how to feed themselves.  This practice is a dangerous and precarious precedent.

The day may come when the public church life that we know today ceases to exist.  Countries throughout the world have tried to suppress Christian churches and throughout the world there are movements to silence Christian people.  However, we should not fear for this future, God did not give us a spirit of fear, but we should be aware of this possibility and be thoughtful in our choices.  While we have a public voice we need to use that voice to feed the sheep and that food is God’s word.  We need to teach each generation to feed themselves.

Family Bible studies are probably the greatest opportunity most people will ever have to learn to live by the Bible and learn to read and understand it themselves.  Family Bible studies provide fathers, mothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles an opportunity to teach the next generation not just what the Bible says, but how to study the Word of God and benefit from it for themselves.  The greatest thing we can do for our families is to teach them how to study God’s Word so that they can obtain, maintain and sustain a close relationship with the Savior.

This small guide will present methods, techniques, tools and hints that can help any family establish a routine Bible study.  This is not intended to be an exhaustive book, but instead a concise introduction that can allow families to quickly plan, establish and sustain family Bible studies.

If your family has never practiced a routine Bible study, or needs to establish a better routine, or you are just looking for some helpful hints, then this guide is for you.
